The purposes of the PATHOS project

The purpose of the PATHOS project is to determine to what extend different manure separation techniques can reduce the contamination of surface and groundwater with unwanted contaminants including pathogens, and steroid estrogens.

  • In PATHOS new techniques for the quantification of major pathogens and natural estrogens in manure, soil and water samples, are optimized and developed.
  • In PATHOS the impact of state-of-the-art, commercial manure separation technologies and storage on distribution and persistence of contaminants, are assessed.
  • PATHOS determines how soil type and separation method affects the transport and fate of pathogens, and natural estrogens from processed manure to freshwater.
